Vancouver Drivers about to get shafted again

Postby Mike Cleaver » Wed Jan 25, 2012 3:55 pm

Mayor Moron and his bike loving idiots at City Hall are planning to raise downtown parking rates AGAIN, this time with sliding rates depending on location, time of day and parking demand as is being done in some American cities.
This after making huge increases in parking meter rates after the LimpDick Games during which they eliminated thousands of parking spaces for the duration so corrupt LimpDick officials could be sped between expensive dinners and cocktail parties.
So motorists who already pay through the nose with gas surcharges, taxes, licence fees, insurance rates, transit fees, property taxes etc. are being expected to pay even more.
This while other parking spaces disappeared to build exclusive bike lanes that hardly get any use, despite the inflated figures being released by City Hall.
And even more spaces are being given over to those temporary rent a car companies.
These greengrassholes won't be happy until everyone is taking the inefficient jump on for free transit system or riding a bike or walking and downtown businesses go down the tubes because their customers can't park nearby.
Citythink: Need more money, stick it to the motorists.

Compare that to the Edmonton the way Mike remembers it circa 1980: buy yourself a Commercial license plate and you can park at any meter for free forever.

..or just get hired by the city. When I lived near Cambie and Broadway any vehicle with a City of Vancouver employee window decal could park almost anywhere without fear of ticketing. City employee vehicles would tie up every metered spot for blocks around city hall, all day! Exactly the thing metered parking is supposed to prevent; drivers camping out at a single spot for hours and hours.
