MS and Google

Postby another dog » Wed Feb 09, 2011 4:33 pm

After using Internet Explorer 6 for a browser and Google for search, I am finding more and more sites are giving
me the hint that I must upgrade to MS Internet Explorer 8. And while I don't complain here, but....... if I do
comply, I am told that Google cannot be used as before. :tail

What??????? I am told that Bill and friends down south now want us to use BING. Any thoughts on this?

Is Bing any better than Google? Any worse? I think that the Google guys have it right, at least for now.

I guess there is a way to use Google, it just takes more finger work. :tail

I've had IE8 since it was introduced.
IE is not my primary browser but I have it because some sites simply don't display properly in anything else.
I still prefer Firefox.
Haven't had any problems with Google/Firefox.

I've been using Google Chrome on my back-up laptop...I really like it!
I might change to it when I get my primary laptop back from servicing, on which
I have been using FireFox.

Thanks for responding guys, :worthybow: I look forward to more thoughts on this issue.

I have been wondering about using Firefox, and I haven't heard to much

about Chrome.

Chrome is Firefox on steroids...it is available for Windows and for Linux. From an operational view, in Chrome, each tab window is a separate running process. Firefox is excellent, another browser that gets used alot is Opera... one of the guys with Opera actually created the tab window format.

http://www.firefox.com/ is for Firefox and Thunderbird, their e-mail reader.

http://www.opera.com/ for their browser collection.. they make browsers for specific devices etc.

I refuse to use ANY version of IE and haven't used it since v 3!! I was a diehard Firefox user until Google Chrome came along. PMC is right - Chrome is Firefox on steroids...very fast and have only come across a couple of pages that don't load - these view fine in Firefox. Chrome works fine in XP, Vista or W7, updates itself and is adding more and more features, as it was a little sparse on these for the first year it was available.

If you're going to stick with IE, then yes, you should use the most up to date version. It may suggest Bing as the default search engine, but it's easy to change that to Google.

But yeah, I love Chrome for the way it just gets out of your way.

Again, I am greatful for the response on this. Sounds as though there is some common

ground here, yet some differences. This is a tad confusing, yet it's good to know where

one can go from where they are. I will soon make the deciding descision of what to do.

And if I don't, have no one to blame but myself. Thanks again guys.
