In 1988, CFRN founder Dr. G.R.A. "Dick" Rice sold his Edmonton AM, FM (call letters changed from CFRN-FM to CKXM by this time) and television stations, plus 11 TV repeaters to Electrohome.

Four years later, all in 1992:
  1. Dr. Rice passed away,
  2. Electrohome sold the AM and FM stations to Standard Radio, and
  3. Standard quickly changed the FM call letters to CFBR-FM, The Bear.
