Hearing highlights for Sep/06

I'm a little late putting this together (my son is getting married next weekend.....and all), but in the future when the CRTC issues a "Notice of Public Hearing" I will discuss the more interesting proposals. This hearing will be held on September 11, 2006 in Gatineau, Quebec (which is basically a suburb of Ottawa).

Long Beach stations THE BEAR 90.1 Tofino and THE WHALE 99.5 Ucluelet could be getting an FM sister in the Whistler Alps. Matthew McBride has applied for a 500 watt Rock-Pop music station at 98.9 in Pemberton:

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has formally applied to purchase the O.K. Radio Group's stations in Victoria (THE Q & THE ZONE):

As has Rogers with the O.K. Radio Group stations in Alberta:

This proposal for Bonnyville is very interesting. Last year Newcap was awarded a license for a new FM station in Bonnyville which would repeat the programming of LLOYD FM (CKSA 95.9) in Lloydminster. Before this new facility even hit the air Newcap applied and was granted permission to dump the original CKSA simulcast idea and go it alone with a local Hot AC format. This station is now KOOL 101 dot 3. Well, 912038 Alberta Ltd (which I believe is a division of Peace River Broadcasting) is now applying to do exactly the same thing in Bonnyville with the existing 50,000 watt repeater of Lloydminster's THE GOAT (CKLM 106.1) at 99.7. The new station will have a Rock format:

Maybe Newcap will brand this station as KID FM (that's a pretty baaaaaaad joke).

MY BROADCASTING CORPORATION which has seen great expansion throughout the regional Ottawa area in the past couple years is applying for another one. A new AC station in Napanee with 11,100 watts at 88.7 will likely be the next "MY FM":

All the existing regional Quebec CORUS AM stations have applied to flip to FM. This includes CJRC 1150 Gatineau (Ottawa), CKRS 590 Saguenay (the ex-Chicoutimi),
CHLT 630 Sherbrooke, and CHLN 550 Trois Rivieres. All stations plan to retain their News-Talk formats (items #18 through #21):

The same applies in Windsor, Nova Scotia where CFAB 1450 wishes for an FM flip to 92.9 with 100,000 watts:
