Unlike Sunny Goodge Street, where only Lenny Waronker got a producer credit and Leon Russell got an unusual "directed by" notation, Girl From The North Country is a bona fide Waronker/Russell co-production. (Leon got arranger credits on both singles.)
YouTube poster Amy Boyd knows her Northcott stuff as there are plenty of archival photos, concert playbills and even a photo of the old Tom Northcott Trio which predated the linkup between his co-owned New Syndrome record label and mighty Warner Bros. My only quibble is that West Coast seaside scenes continue even when the Bob Dylan lyrics turn suddenly wintry.
This remains one of my favourite Dylan cover versions. It coulda, woulda, shoulda been a big American hit for Tom. Pity.
