To these ears, My Own Way To Rock sounded every bit as catchy as Stand Tall. But unlike that million selling single, which made the Billboard Top 10, the title track of Burton Cummings sophomore solo album tanked, peaking at #74. Followup single Timeless Love didn’t even chart on Billboard.
Most peculiar. The singles prospered in Canada, solidifying Burton’s position as an artist tailor made for tv specials and annual coast-to-coast tours.
The My Own Way To Rock album, Burton’s second to be produced by Richard Perry, was superb from start to finish. It also marked the rapprochement of Burton and long-estranged ex-Guess Who collaborator Randy Bachman. Several tracks featured Bachman guitar including Got To Find Another Way, a 1970 ballad written by Burton and Randy that was never recorded by The Guess Who.
