Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Unfathonable that this anthemic song did diddly squat in the US of A.

A common fate for the almost universally excellent singles issued by Daffodil Records in the early to mid '70s. Those included initial Crowbar releases with King Biscuit Boy (aka the late singer-harmonicist Richard Newell), A Foot In Coldwater, Fludd and Tom Cochrane (pre-Red Rider). A great roster on a boutique, niftily-logoed label.

In the case of Oh What A Feeling, it did get an American release...on Paramount. Quite possibly the worst label possible for any aspiring rock band. A latter day successor to Dot Records, Paramount was pretty well a one trick pony, flogging soundtracks for sister firm Paramount Picures. Both Paramounts were subsidiaries of conglomerate Gulf + Western.

Paramount in the United Kigdom had some moxy. They managed to work Lee Marvin's Wand'rin' Star (from Paint Your Wagon with Clint Eastwood) into a three week run atop the U.K. charts. The same song tanked in the U.S. Unfortunately for Crowbar, it seems Oh What A Feeling only got a chance to stiff in America, with no potential second chance in Great Britain as the London office of Paramount passed on giving it release. A year later, Paramount UK released Crowbar's cover of Hey Baby with Paramount US nixing a release. Go figure.

Meanwhile in early '71, Francis Lai And His Orchestra scaled the heights for Paramount with Theme To Love Story.

Bottom line Kelly Jay and Crowbar: No traction, ever, south of the border. Epic Records gave them later releases that went nowhere. So much for needing to 'have it in the grooves.'
