Today's Can-Con 45 is from 1997 ... Morden, Manitoba born Loreena McKennitt and "The Mummer's Dance" ...

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I wonder if this tune will pick up some airplay between now and Christmas.

The Mummers Dance is almost never played as gold now on contemporary radio. Sort of odd since it did reach #18 on the Billboard Top 100 and number #3 on the US Adult Top 40. Also strange since even to this day, some radio consultants/program directors seem to think that the only cancon gold worthy of airplay would be songs that charted in the US. Actually that is more sad than strange.

Art Bell regularly used segments of this song for segment bumpers on Coast To Coast. Ditto If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot. I'm unsure if Art ever interviewed Loreena (he did have a 40-minute chat with Gord).

I like to think the ethereal yet uplifting Mummer's Dance was played in the Bell household earlier this year during his final days.
