Terry David Mulligan CKLG April 1968

The voices of CFUN and CKLG from the mid 1960's into the 1970s ... not full airchecks, but great pieces of Vancouver radio history.

In April of 1968, Terry David Mulligan was holding down the Noon - 3PM shift at CKLG.
Later in the year, TDM was in Toronto at CKFH.

Does anyone know the title and artist of the third song in, at the 1:29-1:30 timecheck? "Fading away"? Always thought those early Johnny Mann jingles were a tad sloppy. They sounded better in the later versions where CKLG was sung whith more emphasis on the call letters, a la CKLW.

Donovan ... That song was Fading Away by Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers ... flips side of Does Your Mama Know About Me.

It was charted as a two sided hit ... first time I've ever heard Fading Away.

Thanks Radiofan! Would love it if Red could play that song again one of these Sundays...

Red might - I wonder if it qualifies as CanCon?

"Does Your Mama Know About Me" was a huge hit - and racially significant. Black and White couple, in a time of deep racial division, in the States.

Still stands up, too. I have it on my iPhone.

Wasn't it Bobby Taylor who discovered the Jackson Five?

Diana Ross also said she was the one that discovered the kids from Gary, Indiana. Who knows?

All I know is, on December 14, 1969, I saw them perform I Want You Back on the Ed Sullivan Show and knew I had seen the future.

The quote from Taraborrelli, J. Randy (2004), The Magic and the Madness, is: "Steeltown Records owner and producer Gordon Keith from Gary, Indiana, discovered and first signed the Jackson Five, and they began making their first recordings in 1967." This was after the group had already had gigs all across the U.S. on the so-called "chitlin' circuit".

I think Diana Ross was credited with bringing them to the attention of Berry Gordy and the folks at Motown.

The Michael Jackson bio I read said it was Taylor who brought them to Motown's attention, and the publicity department came up with the Diana Ross story and putting "Diana Ross Presents" on their first album

Back to TDM...I recall a Johnny Mann jingle that sung his name to the same melody as "Robert W. Morgan". I would guess this is from the early '70s, although on their 10th anniversary CFOX show, Larry and Willy indicated that terry (their predecessor in AM drive) used it on The Fox.
