Radio news from the USA

I was not familiar with his work, but Chuck Riley was well known in the Voice Over business after a successful career as a DJ in several markets, including L.A. and NYC: Power 106 and Hot 97, respectively.

VoiceHunter.com is announcing his passing (yesterday), currently on their Home Page. Chuck helped found the site. They are featuring the best demo they have of him at http://www.voicehunter.com/Riley,Chuck.mp3

More information coming in from a number of sources. Chuck was previously known as Chuck Dann on KOMA in the '60s. I've seen several comments from Canadian DJs who were inspired by his work on KOMA, which they could hear at night. He also worked at CKY Winnipeg and did voice work for CHUM. ReelRadio has an 1968 aircheck of him at WKYC Cleveland.

I've got Chuck Dann's headshot on a CKY survey, circa 1964 (one from my extensive collection from that era). There's a montage of all the jocks there at that time including a youthful Daryl B.

Information keeps pouring in from a number of directions. Someone who worked with Daryl B. at CFUN mentions how Daryl kept talk about Chuck Dann at CKY.

Here are some interesting links I found:

Good stuff in that chuckriley.net link.
Very interesting to read the piece by Warren Cosford.
Haven't been in touch with him for decades. Warren always did have a talent for writing a good story.
