Goodbye AM 600

At 7PM on Thursday November 13th, CKBD officially became 100.5 The Peak.

Here's the pre-amble and launch of 100.5 The Peak
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Afraid not, RF. I can't get the RA version working and the QT version is a 23 second bit of Big Daddy introing a song.

Maybe the folks at Pattison will correct whatever mistake they have made and have the audio available.

If not, I'll post it here later on.

I listened to the launch of The Peak and am still trying to figure out what the reason was for the preamble with Rick Arnish and Jerry Seamans. The party was quite obviously a closed event for staff members only. These two clowns sounded like a couple of big wigs at an Amway convention preaching to the flock. I felt like I was eavesdropping on a private function.

Sad

Postby johnsykes » Fri Nov 14, 2008 11:28 pm

I guess I can be construed as being a dinosaur, but nevertheless...I was saddened by the happening last night. My best years were at CJOR 600...in sports....doing marine reports and the occasional talk show. Time marches on, I know.....but the change to the crap now on 100.5 why? it's already being played on other so=-called rockers.

I listened to the Peak for an hour or so until I got a headache. Who listens to this "music"? It must be a niche format. The announcer was some young girl with an attitude. Low rent.

Sorry John but yes, in this case you are a dinosaur...a very talented one but one nonetheless. :) You will not get this radio station. You have no interest in the music; some of it yes is being played on other stations..various other stations which is the key. It's older stuff that you'll hear on DIFFERENT radio stations. The Fox will play Pearl Jam but not Paul McCartney "Baby I'm Amazed". Likewise, Rock 101 would play Paul McCartney and not Pearl Jam. So the mix of the old stuff is just that, a mix and it's great.

And the "crap" as you call it is newer, indy, fan based music that doesn't get the play it so desperately deserves. Stuff that no other "so=-called rocker" radio station IS playing.

When Elvis, or the Beatles, or the Stones or a plethora of others first hit the airwaves, I bet there were quite a number of old curmudgeons that said "What a bunch of crap".

Yes, time marches on.

And as if on cue another old curmudgeon :) See my reply above to John. It is not as niche as you think. There's a whole world out there of Youtube, Myspace and various other sites (sites you are not familiar with) that nuggets of indy songs make the rounds (Jeremy Fisher "Cigarette" see how many times that got a hit on Youtube... over the 2.2 million mark. Does that sound niche to you?).

Did you know Tuned that on iTunes (do you know what iTunes is? ) is a thing called Genius? It reads your playlist and offers you other stuff based on what you like - stuff that you might not have heard before. I bring this up because you might not use that, but I'll bet the Peak listeners do. Anybody under 35 knows how to internet mine either through itunes or Youtube or Myspace for new and different music. This is what the Peak is doing.

It's not your scene or music Tuned, I get that. But so typical of the crusty old fart..."Who listens to this 'music'....low rent". Pull your pants up to your nipples and move to Victoria or Florida

I think tuned should be insulted by our new player here.

As one of the oldies but goodies - there is a place for new and indy music.

Why not a nice FM station with MOR music that we old retired farts can listen to. Not CISL, Not CKBD (god rest its soul) but a great well run station playing music that suits my tired ears.

Much of the music I hear today is not well liked by people over 50 but who am I speak? But it appears the people in charge who I thought were going to the the baby boomers have been replaced by those who play crappy sound (not really music) in stores everywhere driving me crazy.

I visited with a 90 year old women today and realized I could be in this prison of shitty music for another 30 years.

Ipod - thats my answer.

Personally I think the station should be re-branded as "World Class Boredom".

No insult intended :) What would you classify MOR? Give me some examples of what style you'd like

Witty. Again it's not for you Dan...too old. You are not in the demo. I envision you sitting in front of your TV giving a critique of Teletoon's Big Comfy Couch. "Pfft. I already know how to count to 10...this show sucks!"

Hey newbie

Does it make you feel big to insult people just because they don't have the same taste in music as you have?

The way you're defending The Peak and the "music" it plays, I'd have to say you quite likely work there as a board op or maybe you're one of the "green inspectors".

Whatever, keep drinking the Pattison company Kool Aid. Maybe one day you'll get promoted to Produce Manager at a Save On or Price Smart store.

If you have a minute, congratulate whoever ripped off the World Class Rock slogan. How freakin' original.

Hello Pot? This is Kettle...you're black! Wow that's rich....isn't that what I called them out on? I only confirmed what they were saying: that they are too old to enjoy the station; they are too old Kat. How is that an insult? But I will question and take them to task for concluding that the music sucks. I think the Big Comfy Couch was a perfect analogy

Nope. I work at another station...hope you understand I can't say which one. Don't think the brass would like me saying how much I love the music. And I do love the mix. The new stuff is great and alot of the old stuff I haven't heard on radio in a while "Porno for Pyros", "James", "The Cure". Show me another radio station that's playing a mix like this?

Pathetic. You guys all have the same put downs. Anyone who likes the station must work there huh?

That's the first thing I will agree with you on...it is so much more than World Class Rock. But other than that, I'll see if I can request INXS' "Bitter Tears" just for you Kat!

Tell me more about this demographic group you make reference to. Over the past couple weeks I have discussed The Peak with many people of all ages and professions and have yet to find anyone that gives it the thumbs up. Boring does seem to be the unanimous opinion.

Oh and BTW if anyone did think that I was insulting them for calling them old, I do apologize. I meant it as a statement of fact and not a put down. That's the trouble with forums, you can read whatever emotion you want into a post. :) Which is why I try to use emoticons wherever I can...notice the lack of them in my reply to Kat's

The main demo is I think 25 - 35. However I have a business friend who is actually 50 and his daughter is 16. They both give it the thumbs up. Go to the Facebook page and see the comments. Like any new station it is going to need some time. One thing I will say that they did a terrible job on is/was advertising.

People that know me and know that I am in radio have been asking me about it and when they tune in tell me they like what they hear; not so much the on air staff but the music.
