Waikiki Web cam

Postby johnsykes » Fri Mar 30, 2012 4:11 pm

My daughter & son in law are in Hawaii on holidays....they're going to be at the Waikiki Web cam at 8.15 PDT tonight. I've tried to bring the scene up but no go. It tells me to download Windows Media if there's no picture. I have Win Media already.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

John, this is a good lite-duty older player that should do you for tonite. Just follow the easy install instruction to download it .
and say Aloha for us. ;-)

PMC, weighing in?

I refreshed the page, waited 60 seconds and it worked. I couldn't get it to work at first either. I'm using Firefox and VIPRE.

Assuming, of course, that you are talking about:

The site address doesn't work for me. Could be a glitch in their server.

Check out the still traffic cams that the Hawaii government site has. Click any intersection and the image is there. It would be a snap getting a traffic report together there.

John... don't try typing the address in... just left click on the link in Jon's post above . Works fine for me.
Depending on your setup, it may open in a new tab that you may have to click on, to look at. (And yes, the 1 needs to be there)

Here's what I get

You are here: Home / Honolulu Web Cameras / Live Images

WAIKIKI BEACH

Camera picture will time out after 5 minutes, refresh your browser to view again.
Picture will appear in a few moments.
If you don't see a picture download Download Free Windows Media Player

I have Windows Media....of course above there's a blank screen which never showed above.....I've refreshed till my fingers are numb.

Many thanks for trying.....I've given up

The reason it doesn't work John, is the Microsoft DRM (Digital Rights Management). I get a connection but it gets dropped because the DRM isn't there. Those that can connect are using Vista/7 and its DRM. This is a good example of how DRM and a Microsoft specific format, interrupts the process. Control freaks at their finest :orclown:

Thanks to PMC and all who tried to help. Guess my XP system does indeed need upgrading to something more up to date.

Cheers all :salute:
