Shaw Log a Fire Hazard

Postby jon » Thu Dec 27, 2012 7:40 pm

Shaw's annual month or so of dedicating a channel to a fireplace appears to have become so popular that it is becoming an issue for the Fire Department.

From an Edmonton Journal article posted a couple of hours ago:
Edmonton’s fire marshal, Tom Karpa, doesn’t bat an eye when asked about a recent call in which someone called 911 after spotting flames through a neighbour’s window. When crews arrived, they found a TV tuned to a channel featuring burning logs on a crackling fireplace.

Similar to a "news" item today on Google about parents who want to sue fireplace makers because they're too stupid to tell their children to keep away from an item that can become hot.
This goes for gas and natural fuel fireplaces.
What the hell is wrong with people today?

Back in November ...

Burning yule log video prompts calls about Regina stadium on fire
By The Canadian Press November 29, 2012

REGINA - Stand down, Regina, Mosaic Stadium isn't on fire.

People have called 911 over the last few days to report a fire at Mosaic Stadium, where the CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders play.

Deputy fire Chief Gerard Kay says callers have been insistent, describing bright flames and the smell of smoke.

But when firefighters arrived, there was no fire.

Kay says it took them three or four trips before they realized that people were seeing large video screens inside the stadium broadcasting the perennially popular holiday fireplace video.

The fire department has called the Roughriders asking them to change the video, and a spokesperson for the Roughriders confirms it has been taken off.
