Isn't French our official second language?

Postby dial twister » Mon May 06, 2013 1:29 pm

As can be expected these days, I opened my mailbox to find a card this morning from the local NDP candidate. Nice photo of her and Mr. Dix.

What really caught me by surprise was the fact that this piece of ad mail, junk mail, whatever is half written in Chinese! WTF?? There's more
Chinese characters on this card than there is on a menu from Who Flung Dung's restaurant!

Since when is Chinese the second language in BC?

Nothing new. I can recall Grace McCarthy doing exactly the same thing some 30 years ago in her Vancouver Little Mountain riding which I used to reside in. Political parties cater to the ethnicity of the area that they are campaigning in.

Er, maybe a re-visit to Civics Class might also remind you that official bilingualism applies only to sectors/areas under federal jurisdiction?

Dial twister has a point though Dan.....if one were to really dig deep into the admission of immigrants to this country, you would find that a working knowledge of either of our official languages is a prerequisite. It seems that law or requirement has gone through the cracks.

Why are schools allowed where neither english or french are the languages all subjects are being taught in? Why are parents jabbering away in other languages to their kids....surely it would be to the kids' benefit to grow up in at least one of our two official languages.

I do welcome peoples from all countries to Canada....but I'm damned well not going to support those people who try to change the Canadian way of living and systems to suit their own purposes.

Yes I have and its darned disgusting. It really tells you how much the immigrants care about their new country....as in, to hell with Canada, we'll start another China or another India right here. No, I don't have a problem with immigrants coming here, I do have a problem when they ignore the status quo here and carry on their merry way. Pierre Trudeau screwed this country and his son will probably try to screw it some more.

Yes John, you DO have a problem with immigrants , especially if they don't conform with your ideas.
It's immigrants that have created many of the private sector jobs over the years.
You should watch what you say in an open forum.
Keep your racism out of here. Don't blame Trudeau for your shortcomings.

Intolerant, two-faced BC redneck socialists make me extra happy to be from Alberta.

So long as you don't put me into the socialist side....no flipping way. Isn't it the way....we who harp about the "others" are called racists....what about those who come here and try to change the Canadian way to that of their original country?

The word you're looking for is Xenophobia... not racism.

There are people in all of the many varied cultures currently living here in Canada who will tell you that Mr. Trudeau's Multiculturalism policies were a mistake.

I just called Parliament Hill in Ottawa to complain:
I was put on hold and prompted "PRESS THREE FOR ENGLISH...".

Yes you do John.

Ya know RC priests used self-flagellation - you should try it. Be abusive to yourself and leave the immigrants alone.

All the policies that allow increased immigration in Canada were created by White English Canadians (WEC). The immigrants are taking full advantage of our policies as they should.

Mr. Harper, your guy, has been in charge for a long time and has changed nothing really other than appointing media types Wallin and Duffy ( WaD )

Nice to see cart machine on another thread
