Larry and Corrie out at LG 104.3

Postby radiofan » Tue Nov 24, 2015 9:06 am

Yesterday was Newcap's turn to revise the staff list.

LG 104.3 Morning Team Larry Hennessey and Corrie Miller along with a promotions person were escorted out of the building on Horseshoe Way.

Kelly Latremouille takes over mornings (doing a live 6AM - Noon show), Noon to 3 will be voice tracked by someone from Ottawa and Graham Hatch 3 - 9PM.

Newcap in Edmonton and Calgary also shed a few paycheques.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

What???? Now Newcap......There might be a time when all these companies wish they had the seasoned vets at their respective stations.Sad to hear this as Larry is such a nice guy (and you know what happens to nice guy's in this biz) and Corrie another talent loss. Dam...too many big names this past week...AGAIN.

Salary dump, pure and simple. Nice that they escorted Larry and Corrie to the door and threw them out. Same thing happened to me, after 10 years, on Ash Street and it was kind of like "why did you have to humiliate me?"

This station is running a total of, wait for it, not counting Can/Con garbage - 219 songs.

No one is listening.

Kelly ain't Freddie and a six hour morning show...?

Graham Hatch has a six hour slot as well.

DUMB.

This is such a common practice in all industries these days that I'm sure that they now teach it in most university MBA programs and other Management courses.

From what I have read on the subject, you cannot predict who will create trouble if allowed to "stay in the building" after being made aware of their Layoff or Firing. The Model Employee might throw an office chair through a 22nd floor window or take the more secretive approach of programming material to air after their departure date that could see the station(s) lose their license(s), or other acts of "sabotage". A more common occurrence is the obvious or subtle effect that the soon to be departing employee can have on the rest of the employees' morale. It is hard not be bitter, at least initially, and impossible to predict how someone will react to "The News", even when you know them well.

For on-air employees, the risk goes beyond employees to listeners/viewers.

People working in the Sales area, inside or outside Broadcasting, pose an additional risk: stealing customer information for use at a competitor.

Jon. Well put.

I would never even think to steal from an employer, or throw a chair - but, you never know, I guess.

Thanks for the post.

I thought the story was about people losing their jobs.

Broadcasting is not like most industries. Most industries are not showing that much disrespect for employees.

I keep saying it and getting push back. Radio ain't what it used to be. BUT I was shown the door too so I guess I understand.

And despite what many will say about unions :worthybow: - I got a job with a government contractor and served in a useful capacity with
one employer for 30 years.

By the way...I don't think that's Corrie in the above photo. I believe it's the GM who fired her and Larry.

This station is trash, simple as that. Drop the "LG" in your name, it's a total disrespect to all other "LG's" from the past.

Shore 104.1 CHHR, was great when it started up. But the signal was poor and they didn't give the format or the people, time. I felt loyal to the station until they dumped all the good people after switching to 104.3. Then the AAA hit parade kicked in. Still enjoyed the jazz lounge, but not convenient time wise to me. Then the insult of LG. I am long gone.

I've seen people walked out (who had to come back after-hours to clean out their offices - under the watchful eye of the GM and Office Manager) and I've been walked out after 4 1/2 years of employment.

Pretty much the standard in this biz...no matter how long you've been with a company.

Six hour on air shifts? Does Newcap think Vancouver is small town Alberta?

Vancouver's Greatest Hits? Gimme a break. December 63 by the Four Seasons is such a huge hit that it has to be played twice in 13 hours? Two Police songs have to be played within 35 minutes of each other? Have these people ever heard of variety? The audience or lack thereof isn't as stupid as you think they are. Music on a station in Vancouver Canada programmed by someone in New York City?

I'd suggest Newcap should look at hiring a PD or is it a Brand Manager that knows something about radio rather than someone putting all his energies into pretending to be writer of motivational dribble.

The listeners are hungry for some good radio, not the shit that LG 104.3 delivers.

You had a great Morning team and you blew it, now you've got pablum.

Welcome to the reality of radio in 2015. Newcap stands for Newfoundland Capital Corporation. Their name says it all. A radio station being run by a company five thousand miles away interested in "capital". What do you expect? The licenses belong to the "public" but the public obviously doesn't care that private companies are milking them for shareholders with no regard to the "public". Looking for a scapegoat for the sad state of affairs in Canadian radio? Look in the mirror. Bell is making great profits but it's not enough for shareholders so they gas hundreds of people just in time for Christmas. Don't get me started on the ripoff that is Shaw and Rogers. I've heard a lot of Harper bashing but does anyone think that anything will change with Trudeau? The big media companies will continue to loot and pillage just like they did before. The only way any of it will change is if people stop giving the big media companies their money and their time. Until that happens nothing is going to change. I used to listen to 1040 and have turned them off. I'm not paying five bucks an hour to listen to them. How do I figure that? Well minimum wage is ten bucks and they run about a half an hour of advertising out of every hour. Don't like the sad music rotation on 104.3? Turn it off. There are plenty of other ways to get those songs.
