Today's Con-Con 45 is from 1972 ... it's Fludd and "Cousin Mary" ...

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Fludd was the best Badfinger music fans outside Canada never heard of. Too bad, because their Beatles-meets-the-Small-Faces sound was nigh irresistable.

Perhaps if siblings/cofounders Brian and Ed Pilling had stayed in Birmingham, England (where they briefly relocated in the late '60s), their musical verve might have exported more easily to the US. From the mid '70s on, Fludd was also compromised by the deteriorating health of Brian Pilling. (He succumbed to cancer in 1978.)

Ex-Fludd bassist Greg Godovitz made a subsequent mark with his powerpop band Goddo. A number of other former Fludd members went on to successful bands such as Trooper and Saga.
