A New Beach In Melfort

Postby radiofan » Fri May 17, 2019 7:56 am

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has flipped recently acquired Classic Hits/Oldies CK 750 (CKJH) in Melfort, SK to BEACH RADIO 750.
The format has been tweaked and now features Classic Hits from the 80's and 90's.
CK-750 was launched in 2002 when Fabmar converted CJVR 750 to FM with it's Country format, and rather than shut down the AM like most stations did, it became a new station with a great signal that covers most of Saskatchewan.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Ugh!

Really?

It's unfortunate that they couldn't just leave it alone. It along with KRKO 1380 is about all that is left for night-time DXing when it comes oldies. Except that KRKO sounds like they are using a phone line for the STL. Not much better than the awful sound of the old 570 AM EK Radio, Cranbrook.

CJVR has the best sounding AM processing for music left on the dial. Hope they don't "tweak" it too.

I don't think 'what would DXers like to listen to' plays much into programming decisions. ;-)

I think it is rather cool calling a radio station Beach Radio in middle of Saskatchewan! Nice to hear they have a booming signal across most of the province. Listening to them they are doing something a little similar musically to CJOY AM in Guelph, ON.

Although CJOY plays some 70's music still, the emphasis is on 80's and 90's, even the odd album cut and live version of a song. I have heard album cuts from Roxy Music, The Clash and a live version of Elton John Guess Why They Call it the Blues.

Nice to hear a few smaller AM stations playing music.

Congrats on the thinking.... My guess would be vastly underperforming Peak in Vancouver would be ripe for a change.
